What a Great job!
Margaret Juntwait, current announcer for the Met Sat Afternoon broadcasts, will be the On air talent for the recently announced new Met channel at Sirius.
There is a Farewell Party onair going on right now at WNYC.ORG (or on the radio in NYC area). See link below to note from Ms. Juntwait on WNYC website.
A Goodbye – Wednesday, September 20, 2006
After fifteen years on WNYC, Margaret Juntwait is leaving us to be the full-time voice of the Metropolitan Opera. Tonight, Margaret writes a personal note to her listeners, on this, her last broadcast as the host of weekday “Evening Music.”
Sounds like a dream job!
WOOHOO good luck Ms. Juntwait – will be looking forward to hearing this new venture.

The MET and Sirius Satellite Radio
The Metropolitan Opera and Sirius Satellite Radio will collaborate on a channel to broadcast four performances live from the Met each week.
The opera company and Sirius Satellite Radio said yesterday that they would collaborate on a channel to broadcast four performances live from the Met each week. The channel, 85, will also carry 10 Met archival recordings weekly. It will run 24 hours, with 16 hours made up of programming from the Met and the rest provided by Sirius, a spokeswoman for the opera company, Sommer Hixson, said.

Shawl Saved from Frogpond
A VERY KIND knitter has some of the yarn I need and is sending me a whole bag (10!) so I can use what I need and we will do a swap when I am done.
Thank you dear knitter!

iTunes Radio and WGBH
ok so i complained a lot about iTunes 7
and yes I am still having to play with the Audio/Soundcard and Total Recorder but it seems i have figured out my own workaround and they are all working together SO FAR.
However, just a little announcement about the Radio Stations available. The usual classical stuff is there from before – but I noticed
hmm, will be checking it out to see what it offers – the schedule seems interesting enough.
Also check out the new WGBH Classical Podcast – lots of interviews with musicians and performances.

update
I love Wagner operas (he wrote a bunch of operas – including the RING (four over 16 hours). So I have been glued to my computer and desk for two nights and two afternoons since Tuesday listening and recording the LIVE Webstream of the FIRST EVER RING presented in Canada – by the Canadian Opera Company.
Not much to do with knitting except the NORNS spin the Rope of Fate in the first scene of the last opera, GOTTERDAMERUNG.
Three Norns spin the Rope of Fate, which binds the past, present and future. They recall when a young Wotan visited the World Ash Tree, seeking wisdom from the well beneath the tree. He paid with the loss of an eye, and took as his reward a spear broken from the tree itself, upon which he inscribed his contract with Nature. When the spear shattered, the well dried up and the tree withered and died. Wotan's warriors have chopped down the tree and gathered the wood around Valhalla. Wotan will soon set the world aflame. As they wonder what will happen next, the Rope frays and breaks. Their power gone, they descend into the earth in search of their mother, the earth goddess Erda. As dawn breaks, Siegfried sets out from his home in search of adventure. Brünnhilde bids him a loving farewell. As he departs, Siegfried gives Brünnhilde the Ring.
The RING is an incredible experience – I have seen it TWICE at the Metropolitan Opera and its unbelievable to sit and hear in an opera house. Of course, a diehard fan needs to experience it at Bayreuth (where Wagner built an opera house JUST for this!) Since the advent of webstreaming by radio stations – including abroad – I have for the past several years been able to hear the LIVE webcast of the RING from Bayreuth each summer.
This Canadian RING has been perfect timing for my MISSION ORGANIZATION project. Happy to report that much progress is being made. Still have two boxes in the study to go thru – and then the magazines to resort and organize into magazine boxes. And then I get to start on the Yarn Inventory project – including UFOs which I am going to be ruthless about ripping .
Wing of the Moth Shawl progress: not so much cause I am facing the dilemma of running out of yarn. I really dont want to add another color and am not sure I have enough to even fudge like the designer did.
So I am going to procrastinate and…
One thing I really want is a RED shawl – a really warm pretty one – and as I have a very special bday coming I may treat myself and find some cashmere. Not that I can afford it right now – still hassling with insurance company and not receiving any income since April. sigh. There is a point when this becomes a test of who can hold out the longest and its a ROYAL pain.
Brunhilde is just starting her last scene before the end of the last opera. Gotta go and listen (its pretty amazing music!)

iTunes upgrade – buyer beware!
I have VERY mixed feelings about iTunes – I have MANY MP3s which i have recorded off the web and i find iTunes is great for organizing them. And i have a broken 30 GB ipod (which they are refusing to replace even though it broke under warranty and the apple care protection plan) and a new 4 GB working Nano. I will probably get the new 80gb (which is a HUGE bargain for the amount of space).
However, I use TOTAL Recorder and there was a sound card conflict with the new version so it was a VERY rough time earlier this week during my FIRST upgrade to iTunes ver 7. It took several emails to High Criteria (TR’s vendor) to sort the configurations out. Apple of course doesn't reply to emails. BTW their support discussion forums are going crazy with postings in the tens of thousands just since Tuesday.
They are being very cavalier in the design of this new version. Absolutely turning their back on other "audio" applications. Thank goodness that High Criteria is on the ball and had a builtin workaround – which basically tells TR to IGNORE itunes! HAH take that!
Apple took several days to post a resolution to this issue and to other issues. What finally worked was to UNINSTALL ALL iTunes products, rename the directories and then install the last good version (6.05) and then AFTER I had read that several others had resolved the TR conflict I anxiously upgraded last night to ver 7.
I think the newer upgrade had more "fixes" in it as I didnt have the same problems but had a new one – no sound. But after fiddling with a few things including upgrading my Directx drivers (which I think is what did it) and playing with the Audio settings in Quicktime (which REALLY is what controls sound in iTunes – a crappy partnership I think).
However not only did I have that conflict with TR but the initial upgrade corrupted my current Nano and deleted all the data (luckily nothing for which I didnt have a copy) and then poor Nano want being seen in the reinstalled older version. (It was a very annoying week)
Anyway….i did get iTunes to install and work (so far) and Total Recorder is working too (so far)
KNOCK ON WOOD and CROSS FINGERS!
KIP
Working on the Twin Leaf section of Wings of the Moth – and anxious as I am going to run out of yarn and cant decide what to do. Anyone have a couple of balls of Elann Peruvian Baby Silk in Cornflower? I guess I’ll post on their site and see if anything comes up. Otherwise I am going to have to either add another color (like the intrepid designer) or stop until I can find some more yarn – POOOOOH.
