after sandi

one of my top ten favorite radio shows – THE NEWS QUIZ is back for series 88 and WITH A NEW HOST  – Miles Jupp.  comedian Sandi Toksvig took up the role in the sixtieth series (the show broadcasts three series per year), which began on 8 September 2006. Toksvig announced that she would step down after nine years in the role to establish the Women’s Equality Party.

i discovered this show just in the last three years – so missed most of her reign .. its a wonderful show – skewering the news weekly with brit comedians at their best.

today is the first day of the series 88 and the first broadcast for the new host… the cliche of big shoes is really apropos here.  looking forward to seeing how Miles does as chair. and on mondays, News Quiz Extra is a longer version with the bits that didn’t make the edited version The News Quiz.

new year

today for Rosh Hashanah a glorious Canadian front has moved in … the low last night was in the 50s – oh please come soon fall.

Roger lost. (moment of silence)

there was much crying and screaming in my wee apt. he had worked so hard and is playing so well. i am still devastated that he lost – never a Djokovic fan, still not. Listen to his final interview (and WHY do they never play the whole thing?)

Flavia Pennetta was the star of the 2015 tourney… what a wonderful match that was – two old and dear friends playing their hearts out with no rancor or angst… such a difference to the mens final. (i really wish we didnt have such hype about ‘rivalries” oh well the press must have something about which to write.)

l’shana tovah to those who celebrate!

US Open SemiFinals

Serena is gone.
Cilic is gone.
Federer is up one set to Wawrinka right now.
The greatest tennis player since Ashe (and maybe even greater).
Playing tonight in the semi finals after the largest loss ever at US OPEN by Cilic

But today will be remembered for this:

“(I’m sorry) for the American people, for Serena, for the Grand Slam, but today is my day sorry guys,” –Vinci said after shocking world No. 1 Williams, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.

At the age of 32 years, six months in her 44th career Grand Slam, Vinci is just the third unseeded woman in the Open Era to reach the US Open final.
