At Bard College’s production of “Genoveva” onlookers can comfortably wrap themselves in urgent, lyrical and, yes, theatrical music while accepting the opera’s frailties with a minimum of pain.

The performance was stunning in spite of Holland’s somewhat muted praise. Golo was actually very much the star, and the stage production/special effects were world-class. I attended the final performance on Aug 5.
